Joshua Morrison: Bail denied for man accused of sexual assault and robbery of woman inside her Coodanup home

A man accused of a terrifying sex attack on a woman inside a home in Perth’s south has been refused bail. Joshua Stephen Morrison briefly faced Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday over charges relating to a brazen home invasion and assault on Wednesday morning. It is alleged the 36-year-old broke into a woman’s home on Wanjeep Street in Coodanup and sexually assaulted her some time between 8.30am and 9am on Wednesday. He then allegedly stole her mobile phone and car before fleeing, police said. The Coodanup man was arrested less than two hours later, police alleged, following a dramatic pursuit. Officers on patrol spotted the allegedly stolen vehicle on Forestry Road in Myalup — about 70km south of Coodanup — and tried to stop him, but he allegedly sped off. Police stopped Mr Morrison on Forestry Road with a tyre deflation device, more commonly known as stingers, and arrested him. Sex assault squad detectives charged Mr Morrison with four counts of committing aggravated sexual penetration without consent in the course of an aggravated home burglary, one count of aggravated home burglary and commit, one count of stealing, one count of stealing a motor vehicle and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police. Mr Morrison was refused bail and remanded in custody. No pleas were entered. He will next appear at Perth Magistrates Court on June 27 for legal advice.
