Perth Airport: Man charged with importing border controlled drug after Dr. Seuss themed LSD found in luggage

It seems the Cat in the Hat has traded green eggs for acid tabs, with border force officials seizing a stash of Dr. Seuss themed LSD from a traveller at Perth Airport. The Australian Federal Police have charged a 25-year-old man over allegations he imported the border controlled drug after he was intercepted at the airport when arriving on an international flight on Thursday. ABF officers allegedly found a sheet of 80 tabs of lysergic acid diethylanide (LSD) on a printed Dr. Seuss themed paper sheet, concealed inside a book, during a search of the passengers’ belongings. “During the search of the luggage, officers also allegedly found 33 vials of peptides, a large quantity of cigarettes, scales, syringes, and a small plastic bottle with the label scratched off, which contained 54 tablets.” Initial tests on the tablets allegedly tested positive for the stimulant dexamphetamine, which is commonly used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The ABF reported the baggage search to the AFP before the 25-year-old was charged. The offence carries a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment. AFP A/Insp. Gabby Adam said LSD was a “highly-hallucinogenic drug which can have long term consequences for the user”. “Anyone using a substance like this is risking their health and the AFP’s partnership with the ABF is vital in locating these kinds of drugs at the border before they can reach our community.” ABF Insp. John Sweet said frontline officers at airports were trained to locate suspicious items. “Anyone thinking of importing drugs through our airports should understand that the ABF has sophisticated targeting methods and highly skilled officers, and we will intercept these substances at the border.” The man faced Perth Magistrates Court on Friday where he was granted bail with conditions on a 10,000 personal undertaking and a $10,000 surety. He will next front court on April 17.
